I LOVE MY ISLAND DOG
Why? Because island dogs are extraordinary creatures. They are of mixed breed, tall, small, short legs or medium size. They are intelligent, good guard dogs, loyal, have a very strong health and (unfortunately) they are good reproducers as well...... As they are pregnant very frequently, we are faced with a real problem: how to find a suitable home for all those nice creatures? Only one solution: encourage the people to sterilize their dogs as on St. Martin there are probably as many dogs as inhabitants..... That's why we have founded the association I LOVE MY ISLAND DOG, to protect them too and sterilize them. Our motto:

NEUTERING IS PROTECTING THEM

WELCOME TO THE NEW AND ONLY SHELTER AND ADOPTION CENTER IN SAINT MARTIN!

RefugeWe are very proud to introduce our new Adoption Centre. It has taken a lot of time, work and patience to finally open this shelter which for a very long time was only a dream of a small group of friends that shared one passion: "to help the animals of Saint Martin". The need for an establishment for our delightful Creole dogs, or “Coconut Retrievers” as we affectionately call them, has existed for a very long time. [More...]

DO NOT forget your 4-legged friends in case of a hurricane!
Here are some quick tips ...

In cas of a hurricaneMake sure you have enough food in the house also for them! Remember that the stores run quickly out of dog-cat food, croquettes and cans when a devastating hurricane hits our island also keep in mind that there is the possibility that the stores stay closed for some time.

Bring your dogs and cats in the house, because they too are afraid! Do not leave them chained outside. If you do not usually let them come into the house it might be better to let them run free in your fenced garden because the animals know what to do and where to hide in case of danger! (Think of the corrugated and other debris that can fly around!) Please do not let puppies fend themselves!

Even if your dog has a tattoo or a microchip it is better, as an extra precaution, to provide your animal with a medal or collar with his name and your telephone number on it. An animal in fear or stress can escape and run away in times of a hurricane, storm or fireworks.

If your animal is on medication make sure you have some extra provision!

Interventions...

During our interventions and actions we unfortunately sometimes face extremely sad cases, thus we have saved, calmed down, cured and found homes for dogs who were in really bad shape and often had few chances for surviving.
All of them must have had a good guardian angel and are now living safely, being loved, cuddlet, spoiled, and unterstood by their new owners.
