THE STORY OF BOBBY THE WONDERDOG

BobbyBobby was a stray dog at Orient Beach. Lonely, abandoned, he roamed around the Restaurants to find food. Bobby was pretty, a medium size kind-of-white doggie with an incredible charisma. Lots of people got to know him, everybody loved him, fed him, but nobody really took the decision to adopt him.
In March Barb and Josh a young couple from Colorado visited Saint Martin for the first time and felt instantly in love with him. Unfortunately they did not know if he belonged to someone or how they could bring him home to Denver. Josh and Barb left the island, sad, thinking of this poor boy left on his own. Then they tried to find an Animal rescue Organisation thru the internet, someone who could help them to get this dog to them and their home. The picture of Bobby was sent all over and finally they got in touch with us through Joelle, a Lady living in Chicago (!), running an animal rescue association at Club Orient Naturist Resort her in Saint Martin.. At the same time Elisa, the owner of Bikini Beach Restaurant informed us that there was a nice white doggie abandoned around her Place! Everybody forward me the picture of this stray!
It suddenly sound like a V.I.P dog to me! I then immediately jumped in my car and went to try to find him. During the day when the sun is hot, often strays hide under cars. I did not see him on my first try. I went then to my friend Alex, a Rasta man who's a good friend of mine (he once used to work for me when I had a Restaurant at Orient Beach) and explained him what I was looking for. Alex spends all days at Orient Beach, making hats with palm tree leaves and sees, hears and knows everything!! He is really amazing and my best "Doggie Informer"! I went back home to forward him the picture of the dog, to make sure he knows which dog this was about.

An hour later I got a call from Alex; the dog was there, getting some food from a Tourist at the Bikini Beach Restaurant. At the same time the cashier of the Restaurant called me too, so back to Orient Beach. There he was. I started to understand why people loved this dog. He had wonderful eyes and looked so wise.....He had something really special.

I took him home and immediately sent a picture to Josh and Barb to let them know that he was save and in good hands. Then the question arises on how-to get this special dog to Denver? In the meantime Bobby was here with me, (I have to say that all my dogs are incredible, always ready to welcome another poor pup! Quite amazing, they are all rescued and it looks like they understand everything) They had a lot of fun together, but he also chased my cats, killed two chicken, one duck... while we were waiting for THE solution to get him to his new owners.

Our policy refuses sending animals via Cargo (too long, too hot, too risky), and we proposed that someone should come to fetch him. Immediately Josh proposed to jump on a plane to Saint Martin for his save pick up!!! In the meantime, I got all his shots done, his health certificate and got him fixed (sorry Bobby but that's also our policy!)

I booked a studio for one night for Josh at Blue Beach Resort that belongs to our friend and animal lover, a volunteer, Elisabeth ( 7 donkeys, 6 dogs, 8 cats!!!) and always ready to help!

We arranged with Josh an appointment at a local Restaurant in Oyster Pond to plan his trip back to Denver. The BIG surprise was... I brought Bobby with me to the Restaurant!!!
Bobby recognized his friend that he met two months (!) before, in an INSTANT! What an amazing moment for me and Elisabeth who knew about the story!! What a memory! What a dog!

We had dinner together and then Bobby was allowed to sleep over with Josh in the Studio. Elisabeth didn't mind of course, as she understood, these two should not leave each other any more!!!

The very next day I brought them together to the Airport early in the morning. Bobby had to go into a crate, his eyes told many stories. Why ???? I had so much fun at your place with all my new doggie friends!!!! Bobby could be so expressive!! I was quite unhappy, but I knew he would understand later that this was for his best!

After a long trip all the way to Denver, he arrived safe. He now has a new home, has a Mom and a Dad who love him. Imagine, Josh, came all this way to pick him up!! He has also a new friend called Atlas, a German Shepard. Bobby was born under a shining Star, he was abandoned, in order to get a much better life!!!! He will never be unhappy again. It was hard for me to let him go. After only ten days at my home Bobby became one of my favourite dogs and I will never forget him.

Love you Bobby, wish you luck and thanks to Barb and Josh, you are real animal lovers. Wished everybody was like you!

Ps. Sorry for this very common name I gave him, but everything went so fast and when I took him home and introduced him to my doggies, he needed a name. As I have done hundreds of adoptions all these years I have been living here, (18 years already!) I am running out of fancy names!!!!

Just another HAPPY END...
Ursula
