HOW SLY AND JENNY, TWO STRAY DOGS FROM SAINT MARTIN TRAVELLED TO DALLAS TEXAS
This is a very incredible story. Sit down and appreciate!!! That's the day when I Love My Island Dogs Doggie-Escort-Service was born!!!!
Two dogs used to live on their own at Orient Beach, maybe abandoned by someone who left the island of St Martin or just went on vacation??? When driving down to the sea for a swim with my own doggies every morning, they attracted my attention very quickly, as they were both very good looking dogs. Always together, visibly a real couple in love!!! To me it was obvious that they were used to live together and were abandoned together. Each morning, sitting on the same spot, it looked to me like they were waiting for somebody... but that "somebody" obviously never came back!
One day I got a phone call from a Lady who was on vacation in St. Martin. She asked our association for help, as she found two dogs at Orient Beach, and listening to the description, it was the two I was feeding. I explained her on the phone that we have no shelter on the island and that it was difficult for me to take more dogs home, as there are already too many rescued in my house!!!! But Katerina knows what she wants!!! She convinced me to send someone and pick up the dogs to take them to my home .Tito, our best local volunteer went and brought them to me once I was back from work.
Shortly after I met Katerina and her husband and we discussed the difficult animal conditions here in St. Martin. I explained that we were not far away from getting a shelter now. I was so happy to hear them say that they would like to help us, but first we had to find a solution for these two dogs. We named them Sly and Jenny. Katerina promised to try to find a home for them, as soon as she would be back in Dallas. I kept Sly and Jenny in a big adoption pen because so attached to each other , it could have been a little difficult with my other doggies, jealousy is a big issue!
I did hope that we would be able to find a solution quickly. (11 dogs at my home is a lot!!).Then Katerina surprised me... she kept her word and a few weeks later, she sent me an e-mail that she found a home for Sly and Jenny in Texas and on the Countryside!!! Wow; now the question came up: how should we get them all this way to Dallas?
Our organization is never sending dogs cargo as it is too hot for doggies to travel so far during the summer months, also there would be different airplane changes etc. so what to do? Katerina would not give up!! She came up with a great idea: We could escort the two dogs to Miami, there we would give them over to her body guards who will take care of them and take them to Dallas. Sounds like a movie!!! I brought the doggies to a Vet Clinic and there they got spayed/neutered; vaccinated and a health certificates etc. We bought crates, some pretty collars and there, Sly and Jenny were ready for the trip of their lives!!!!!
Our volunteer Monika, a German lady who dedicated her life to animals too; was ready to escort the dogs to Miami. And that's what happened!!! When she arrived in Florida, what was waiting at the Airport? A big black Limousine with tinted windows, she told us!!! She gave Sly and Jenny over to them.
The doggies spent the night in a shelter facility and continued their trip, escorted. to Dallas the next day, where many people were waiting for them!! Katerina was at the arrival with the people who were going to take care of them in their country property...
I guess Sly and Jenny were happy to be able to get out of the crates and be able to run around!! Also the pictures of the welcome committee showed that Katerina was so happy that she was able to resolve this (almost) IMPOSSIBLE MISSION.
Thank you Katerina for what you did for Sly and Jenny; hope we continue to do good things together in order to help our island doggies! I was fortunate to meet you and Sly and Jenny even more!!!!!!
