Association I Love My Island Dog, Saint-Martin

WELCOME TO THE NEW AND ONLY SHELTER AND ADOPTION CENTER IN SAINT MARTIN!

We are very proud to introduce our new Adoption Centre. It has taken a lot of effort, time, work and patience to finally open this shelter which for a very long time was only a dream of a small group of friends that shared one passion: "to help the animals of Saint Martin". The need for an establishment for our delightful Creole dogs, or “Coconut Retrievers” as we affectionately call them, has existed for a very long time.

After the seeds were planted in 2007, 2008 and 2009, it was only in 2010 that we finally saw the results. And ultimately we witnessed the opening of the one and only shelter in French Saint Martin! We owe our success to our island’s Government (Collectivité) that heard (and still listens) to our concerns regarding the islands problems with stray dogs. In answer to our call, they gave a piece of land where we could install ourselves. It was a unconstructible lot they gave us, and that needed a lot of imagination how to build on . We purchased a container and transformed it into the office/reception, which also acts as our food storage room and dispensary.

A group of very well known artists on the island volunteered their artistic abilities and transformed a sad looking container into a happy and bright one. Next to the container we placed 7 regulatory size pens for our dogs (5m2). It is in these pens where we lodge our furry friends an they wait patiently for an owner that will look after them and love them for life.

The water connection has been installed , our newly acquired generator provides the electricity for the Center, and now we are ready to embark on a wonderful adventure!!!

Today the shelter is looked after by a number of volunteers that hope to alleviate our dear Tito who donates all his time and energy to the upkeep of the shelter.

We welcome you to visit us Monday to Friday from 4pm to 6pm and on Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm. Sunday closed to the public. Adoptions are normally done Saturday afternoons or by appointment. You can contact us at 0690 503 407

We of course are very grateful for any help we can get: dog food, dog bowls, dog toys, collars, medicine, towels, blankets, household paper, cleaning tools and products etc. anything that a shelter needs!
It is a this website where we keep you informed of all our activities: events, adoptions, sterilization campaigns, fundraisers and basically anything we need for the shelter. We also sell books and DVDs for 1$ – just to put some butter on our bread… and the collection is huge! We would like to thank all our dear donators, our various volunteers, the media and all the businesses that gave us the building materials, either for free or for a very special low price – there really are too many people to thank by name. And of course, the Collectivité de Saint Martin. I would also like to thank all my friends and family who continually encouraged me and still do. We run this Adoption Center with a lot of joy and motivation, so we one day can call Saint Martin the ANIMAL FRIENDLY ISLAND OF THE CARIBBEAN!
